- Don’t forget to charge your device battery up to 70 – 80% for a flawless process.
- Make sure that you have enabled “USB Debugging” option found under “Settings > Developer Settings”.
- Device bootloader must be in an unlocked state.
- Sony Xperia Z1 must be rooted and possess any Custom Recovery.
- Take a backup of your important stuff.
- Install “Sony Xperia Z1 USB Drivers” on your system.

How to Update Xperia Z1 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via AOSP ROM
Step 1: First of all, extract the “Fastboot_Files.zip” to your “C:\ Drive” (Ex: C:\Fastboot Files).
Step 2: Copy the downloaded “boot.img” and “system.img” files to the extracted folder.
Step 3: Connect your Xperia Z1 with your system with the help of official USB data cable. (Note: Make sure your system must possess all the needed drivers to detect your device.)
Step 4: Now, navigate to “Fastboot Files” folder and open the command prompt there. To do so:
- Press and hold “Shift Key” and press “Mouse Right-Click”, sub-menu will opens-up and from there, choose the option “Open command window here“.
Step 5: Type the following command in the command prompt to make sure that your Xperia Z1 is successfully detected.
- adb devices
Once you type the above command, you’ll get a pop-up on your smartphone saying “The Computer’s RSA Key Fingerprint is?” and you need accept it (Give “OK”).
Step 6: Further, you need to boot your Xperia Z1 into bootloader mode and for that you need to type the following command.
- adb reboot bootloader
Step 7: Once your device is successfully entered into the bootloader mode, flash the “boot.img” and “system.img” files to update Xperia Z1 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
- fastboot flash boot boot.img
- fastboot flash system system.img
- adb reboot recovery
Step 8: Once you are into recovery mode, do “wipe data/factory reset“, “wipe cache partition”, and “Wipe Dalvik Cache”.
Step 9: Then, Select “install zip from SD card” option > “choose zip from SD card” > select “Gapps_Lollipop.zip” package > select “OK”.
Step 10: Finally, Select “++++Go Back++++” and then choose “reboot system” to reboot your Xperia Z1. (Note: Your device will take 5 – 10 minutes to boot up for the first time.)
Step 11: That’s it! You are ready to use Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on your Sony Xperia Z1.
